Buckles

Our lecturer Ashley Buckle. I think he must have seen what I was doing, because he kept walking up and sitting with a thump on the desk. I managed though. Better luck next time Buckles!

Jeeves and Wooster

Caught this show on ABC and I just had to get out my pad and sketch them. Jeeves and Wooster are the masters of expression. Here are a couple.

Danny Trejo

Noticed a few Danny Trejo sketches floating around on the web lately, so I decided to join the fun.  Here is my sketch of Danny Trejo, the most bad-ass face in hollywood. Total time taken approx 1 hr.

Dinosaurus sketchus

Me n the talented Jenna Downing hit the Dinosaurs Alive show at the WA Museum yesterday to draw some of the exhibits. Twas pretty cool, and I owe Jenna one for the idea bcos I would never hav even known about it otherwise. These are some of my sketches, and you can check out Jennas on her blog too.

Oh yeah and the pressure of drawing while a hordes of children crowd around you and their mums say stuff like “See Josh? This boy is an artist. My son wants to be an artist when he grows up.” is priceless lol.

The dinosaurs below are the Stegosaurus, Velociraptor and the Iguanadon. If you want to check out this show, it is running at the WA Museum in the city till March 7th. This is what it looks like http://www.dinosaursalive.tv/.

Dr. Sketchy Wed 7th Dec

These 3 r my favourite sketches I did at this show.  The model for this one was Adora Derriere.  Met some great ppl, and it was a super show.  I probably wont make the next one on the 3rd of Jan but I will be at the next one after that. deffffo

Schmancy name

calligraphy

Trying my hand at the fancy script typography style that seems to be so popular at the moment.

Eye spy

Sister Act

I am somewhat closely related to these two. Family are usually the hardest people to draw. This particular piece is completely digital. Been playing around with custom brushes and halftones – worked a treat!

Dr. Sketchy’s April 09

This was my 3rd Dr. Sketchys show. Awesome as always – and a new venue too. “The Duke” put on a wicked show with lots of style and really cool poses.

Everytime I go I try a different style – either pencils, or pens, brushpens etc. This time I tried my Pantone markers to get down the tone. They bled like crazy and some of my other markers weren’t water-proof and got all caught up in the fun. lame

And the one with the thought bubble won me a free pass for next time *yay.

Deadwood – Al Swearengen

My favourite character from the HBO series Deadwood. His face is so much fun to draw. It is so full of lines and character. I don’t think I’ve ever come across a more interesting looking person. Although after familiarising myself with him over 3 seasons, I find the actor (Ian McShane) looks rather strange without his trademark moustache.

I paused the DVD at various scenes and did some rough sketches in colour pencil. I tried to go for strange angles and lighting – just to make things a little challenging.

Dr. Sketchys Anti-Art Show (December)

This is the second Dr. Sketchy’s I’ve been to.  Its a pretty awesome take on life-drawing, where the models put on much more of a dynamic performance than a traditional life-drawing session. There are prizes, and audience participation and its quite a entertaining little package.

These are some of my sketches from last night’s show featuring Ms Kitty Von Ditty (aka Steve). Sometimes I dont bother trying to draw the model herself, but use her pose to do my own characters. The 3rd and 4th sketches are examples of this.

Obamarama

Figured I might as well join the hype and whip up a caricature of Obama while its still hot! I’m really glad he won, I think he will be a great leader.

I made a custom brush for this piece and it worked really well. Also decided to leave most of the underlying pencil work, which I personally feel adds abit of character and depth to the piece, especially when all the rest is digital.

Nick Cave Sketch

I havnt done any proper drawing in ages so recently I’ve been madly trying to “catch up” on the past few months. Here is a pen and ink sketch of Mr. Cave from reference.

Update: I had abit of fun with the original sketch on photoshop and illustrator. Heres a remixed version.
