I decided to mod the holga to take 35mm. Here are my first attempts. 3 rolls in 2 days!
Medium: 5 yr old expired 35mm film (KODAK 400 ISO)
Equipment: Modified 120 format Holga CFN
Extra ingredients - duct tape, foam and cardboard
The bright red rectangle is from not taping the back of the camera up properly… oops
I think once I worked out the process the images came out much better, although I wonder how much better it would have looked with a nice fresh roll of film instead.
Your assignment throughout this course is design Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. They can be from any time period, past present or future. Create a new take, a new style on the characters. Are they spacemen, pirates, cowboys. You get the idea. Be sure you know the basic concept of your characters before you silhouette them
My version of this story involves a shy, mild-mannered I.T guy who is an extremely boring and uninteresting fellow. He happens to fall in love with a cute girl at a bookshop, but cannot work up the courage to ask her out. On the rare occasion he manages to get a chance to speak to her, there is usually an unfortunate mishap (e.g. someone loud interrupts, the shop closes, he chokes).
As a last resort he looks up some tips on the internet on attracting to women and finds an obscure website with a recipe for a ‘magical’ love spell. With nothing to lose he seeks out the exotic ingredients and prepares the concoction.
He consumes it and Mr. Hyde is born.
Mr. Hyde is the complete opposite to Dr. Jekyll in personality and physicality. He is arrogant, tall, well groomed and well spoken. He is flamboyant and very confident. He is popular and loves to socialise. Women fall for him in droves.
Of course, it would be inevitable that Hyde makes a move on Jekyll’s cute bookshop girl and that’s where the fun begins…
So I recently signed up for a Character Design course at Schoolism with Stephen Silver . We had to do some sketches of Fat Joe and these were my submitted final pieces.
This was the first assignment:
You are to design a concept sketch of Fat Joe based on the play, The Long Voyage Home. Take it as far as you like.
Description:
SCENE—The bar of a low dive on the London water front—a squalid, dingy room dimly lighted by kerosene lamps placed in brackets on the walls At the far end of the bar stands Fat Joe, the proprietor, a gross bulk of a man with an enormous stomach. His face is red and bloated, his little piggish eyes being almost concealed by rolls of fat. The thick fingers of his big hands are loaded with cheap rings and a gold watch chain of cable-like proportions stretches across his checked waistcoat.
I did this for the Snoop drawing jam over at the drawingboard.org
Took the new Wacom 12WX out for a test drive on this ‘biiiach’!
